Interview Q&A / HR & Behavioral

What do you know about our company?

SHORT ANSWER

Give three or four researched facts, namely what the company does, its main clients or products, a recent piece of news, and the work of the team you are joining. Then link one of them to why you are interested.

Explain it simply

This question checks one thing: did you prepare? Saying "it is a big MNC with many employees" tells them you did not.

Spend 20 minutes before the interview on the company website, its careers page, a recent news item, and LinkedIn posts from employees. Note what it sells, who its customers are, where it works in India, and anything recent such as a new office, acquisition or product. You do not need numbers you are unsure of; wrong figures hurt more than none.

Example

Situation: Rahul is interviewing for a trainee role at a mid-sized fintech that builds payment software for banks.

Task: Show real knowledge in under a minute.

Action: He says: "You build core payment and UPI switch software that banks use, and from your website I saw you work with several cooperative banks. I read that you recently opened a development centre in Pune. The trainee programme puts freshers on the testing team first, which I like because it teaches how the product actually behaves."

Result: The interviewer is impressed that he knew about the trainee track and spends the next few minutes explaining the team to him.

What to say in the interview

"You mainly do X for Y kind of clients. I noticed your recent news about Z. What interests me most is how your trainee programme works on A."

Common mistakes

  • Reciting founding year and headcount from memory and getting them wrong.
  • Only saying generic praise like "it is a reputed company".
  • Confusing the company with a competitor.
