Are you comfortable working in night shifts?
Answer honestly. If yes, show you understand what night shifts involve, such as US or UK client hours, routine and health, and how you will manage. If you have a constraint, say so clearly now.
Explain it simply
Support, operations and some development roles in India serve clients in the US, UK and Australia, so shifts can run through the night or rotate monthly. HR wants people who will not quit after the first week of nights.
Show that you understand the reality: a fixed sleep routine, meals at regular times, transport (many companies provide cabs for night shifts). If you have done anything similar, like night study during exams or a part-time job, mention it.
Example
Situation: Deepika is interviewing for a technical support role serving US clients.
Task: Show she is ready for night shifts and knows what they involve.
Action: She says: "Yes, I'm comfortable. I understand the shift follows US business hours, so roughly evening to early morning in India. During my final year I worked part-time evenings at a BPO for three months, so I know I need a fixed sleep schedule and proper meals. My family is fine with it since the company provides cab drop."
Result: HR is confident she knows what she is signing up for.
What to say in the interview
"Yes, I understand the role follows client time zones. I'd keep a fixed sleep routine and regular meals, and I've managed late hours before during X."
Common mistakes
- Saying yes without knowing what the shift timings are.
- Agreeing now and asking for day shifts after joining.
- Showing visible hesitation without stating the real concern.
