HR & Behavioral interview questions

Tell me about yourself, strengths, weaknesses and situation questions, with sample answers.

  1. How do you enter a group discussion when others keep talking over each other?

Wait for a small pause, use a bridging phrase like "Adding to that point", speak clearly and briefly, and back your point with a fact or example. Calm, relevant contributions matter more than volume.

  2. How do you summarise or conclude a group discussion?

Briefly restate the main viewpoints raised, mention any agreement the group reached, and avoid adding new points or pushing only your own opinion. Keep it under a minute.

  3. How should you start a group discussion?

If you open, define the topic briefly, give its context and two or three sides of the issue, and invite others in. Only start if you understand the topic; a weak opening hurts more than a strong later entry.

  4. What do evaluators look for in a group discussion?

They look for relevant content, clear communication, listening, respect for others, the ability to move the discussion forward and calm leadership. Speaking the most is not the same as scoring the most.

  5. What should you do if you know nothing about the group discussion topic?

Listen carefully for the first few minutes, note the points being made, then contribute through reasoning, everyday examples, questions that move the discussion or a summary. Never invent facts.
