HR & Behavioral interview questions

Tell me about yourself, strengths, weaknesses and situation questions, with sample answers.

  1. What are your salary expectations as a fresher?

First, try to let the company share its range, saying you are flexible and more focused on the role. If pressed, give a researched range, not a single number, and be clear whether you mean CTC or in-hand pay. For campus roles with a fixed package, simply say you are comfortable with the package offered.

  2. How do you estimate how long a task will take?

Break the task into small pieces, estimate each based on similar past work, add time for testing, reviews and unknowns, and share the estimate as a range with your assumptions. Update it as soon as you learn more.

  3. How should you negotiate salary after receiving an offer?

Thank them, ask for the full breakup, research the market range, then make one polite request backed by reasons such as a competing offer, skills or relocation costs. Be ready to accept their final answer gracefully.

  8. What would you do if your team lead and the client gave you conflicting instructions?

Do not pick one side on your own. Note both instructions clearly, inform your lead right away, and let the lead or manager align with the client. Continue only on what is agreed, and confirm it in writing.

  9. Would you lie to protect your team?

No. You can support your team by explaining context, sharing responsibility and helping fix the problem, but lying to a manager or client damages trust and usually makes the problem worse.
