- Ask doubts, report errors and get helpful replies.
NWR Act Apprentice Important Dates
- Applications complete in all respects must be submitted only online by 23:59 hrs on the closing date. Candidates are advised to submit their application well before the closing date to avoid last-minute rush and possible website load issues; RRC does not accept responsibility for candidates unable to submit on account of such issues.
NWR Act Apprentice Vacancy 2026
- A total of 2,008 training slots are on offer across 8 units, spanning trades such as Electrician (Coaching/Power/TRD), Fitter, Welder, Carpenter, Painter, Mason, Pipe Fitter, Diesel Mechanic, Turner/Machinist, Electronics Mechanic, Computer Operator and Programming Assistant, Machine Tool Maintenance, and Refrigeration & Air Conditioning, among others. The notification states that the number of training slots shown is provisional and may increase or decrease depending on the administration's actual needs at the time of finalising selection.
- Note on this article: Each unit's slots are further broken down by trade (e.g. Electrician, Fitter, Welder, Carpenter, Painter, Diesel Mechanic, etc.) and by category (UR/OBC/SC/ST/EWS), with separate reserved slots for PwBD (Persons with Benchmark Disability) and Ex-servicemen, set out in detailed tables for each of the 8 units in the official notification. Given the scale of this breakdown (dozens of trade rows across 8 separate unit tables), this article presents unit-level totals only; candidates must check the official notification for the exact trade-wise and category-wise slot count for their chosen unit and trade before applying, since a candidate may only select a unit where a training slot exists for their specific ITI trade.
- When the prescribed number of SC or ST candidates are not available, those reserved training places may be filled by the other of the two (SC by ST, or vice versa); if still unfilled, they may be filled by candidates not belonging to SC/ST. Similarly, seats remaining unfilled by OBC/EWS candidates will be filled by unreserved category candidates. Reserved PwBD and Ex-servicemen seats are not separate or additional - they are already included within the total slots shown for each trade.
NWR Act Apprentice Qualification
- Candidates must have passed the Class 10 examination or its equivalent (under the 10+2 examination system) with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate (no rounding off) from a recognised Board, and must also possess a National Trade Certificate (NTC) in the notified trade, issued by the National Council for Vocational Training (NCVT) or State Council for Vocational Training (SCVT). Candidates should have the requisite educational/technical qualification from a recognised Board/Government University/Institute as on the date of submission of the application; those awaiting results of their final exams should not apply.
NWR Act Apprentice Age Limit
NWR Act Apprentice Age Relaxation
- SC/ST candidates: 5 years' relaxation in upper age limit.
- OBC candidates: 3 years' relaxation in upper age limit.
- Persons with Benchmark Disability (PwBD): 10 years' relaxation in upper age limit.
- Ex-servicemen: relaxable by up to an additional 10 years, to the extent of service rendered in the Defence Forces plus 3 years, provided a minimum of 6 months' continuous service was completed (this does not apply to ex-servicemen who have already joined government service on the civil side after availing ex-servicemen status for that engagement).
NWR Act Apprentice Application Fee
- Fee payment is made online through the payment gateway integrated with the online application, using debit card, credit card, Internet Banking, or similar modes, after the application form is completed and verified for correctness; no change/edit is allowed after fee payment. Any transaction charges for online payment are borne by the candidate. On successful payment, an e-receipt is generated, which should be printed and retained.
NWR Act Apprentice Selection Process
- Selection is based on a merit list prepared for all candidates who apply against the notification, calculated as the simple average of the percentage of marks in Matriculation (minimum 50% aggregate) and the percentage of marks in ITI, in the trade in which apprenticeship is sought.
- For Matriculation percentage, marks obtained by the candidate in all subjects are considered - not the marks of any single subject or group of subjects.
- For ITI percentage, marks mentioned in the provisional/final certificate are considered.
- In case two candidates have the same marks, the older candidate is preferred; if the date of birth is also the same, the candidate who passed the Matriculation exam earlier is considered first.
- The final merit list is prepared division/unit-wise, trade-wise, and community-wise, equal to the number of slots, in descending order of the percentage of marks obtained.
- Candidates finally enlisted are subject to verification of original testimonials and production of a medical certificate (as per the notification's Annexure-IV).
- Candidates should note that no centralised merit list is formed - each unit's merit list is prepared separately based on candidates who applied for that specific unit.
NWR Act Apprentice Important Instructions
- Candidates may apply for only one unit; submitting more than one application with different particulars (name, father's name, community, photo, qualification, email, or mobile number) will result in summary rejection of all such applications.
- The decision of the Railway administration on all matters relating to eligibility, acceptance or rejection of applications, and mode of selection is final.
- Imparting training on the Railway does not confer any right to absorption/employment on the Railway after successful completion of training; per the Apprenticeship Rules, 1992, it is not obligatory for the employer to offer employment, nor for the apprentice to accept it, upon completion of training.
- No correspondence regarding engagement will be entertained.
- Canvassing in any form will disqualify the candidature, and no correspondence will be entertained in this regard.
- Candidates should ensure they fulfil all eligibility criteria before applying; if erroneously engaged, such candidates will be summarily dismissed without notice at any stage.
- For help with online submission or printing of the application, candidates can call the helpline number published on the website from 7 October 2026, available 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM (except Sundays and holidays) until the last date of application.
