Important Dates – WBPSC Clerkship 2026

Educational Qualification

• Candidate must have passed the Madhyamik examination of the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education or its equivalent.
• Candidate must possess elementary knowledge of computer operation with the ability to type on a computer at 20 words per minute in English or 10 words per minute in Bengali.
• The typing option (English or Bengali) must be chosen at the time of submitting the application.
• Computer and typing ability is judged only after qualification in Part-I and Part-II.

Age Limit & Relaxation

• General age limit: Not below 18 years and not more than 45 years as on 01.01.2024. Date of birth must be between 2 January 1979 and 1 January 2006.
• S.C./S.T. candidates of West Bengal: 5 years relaxation in upper age limit.
• O.B.C. (Non-Creamy Layer) candidates of West Bengal: 3 years relaxation in upper age limit.
• PwBD candidates (40%+): Upper age limit relaxable up to 45 years.
• Ex-Servicemen (6+ months continuous service): Service period deducted; resultant age must not exceed maximum age limit by more than 3 years.
• S.C./S.T./O.B.C. candidates of other states are treated as general candidates; no relaxation.

Selection Process & Screening Clause

• The selection under WBPSC Clerkship 2026 is based on a three-stage process:
• Part-I (Objective Type): A qualifying examination. A limited number of candidates obtaining qualifying marks are shortlisted for Part-II.
• Part-II (Conventional Type – Written): Held on a later date to be notified by the Commission. Candidates qualifying in Part-I appear for this stage.
• Test of Computer Operation and Typing: Judged only for candidates found qualified in both Part-I and Part-II. This stage also tests Bengali knowledge (if applicable).
• Final Merit List: Prepared on the basis of total marks in Part-I and Part-II, provided the candidate qualifies in the computer operation and typing test. A candidate who qualifies for Part-II but does not appear in it will not be considered for the final merit list. Selected candidates also undergo a medical examination and police verification before appointment.

Application Fee Structure

• The fee is non-refundable and will not be held in reserve for any other examination.

Salary Structure – WBPSC Clerkship 2026

• The pay scale is Level 6 in the West Bengal Government pay structure, with a scale of Rs. 22,700 to Rs. 58,500. Dearness Allowance (D.A.), Medical Allowance (M.A.), and House Rent Allowance (H.R.A.) are admissible as per the Rules of Pay, 2019 (ROPA, 2019).

• Open the Clerkship Examination, 2024 (Advertisement No. 12/2024) application link and complete the online form between 6 October 2026 and 26 October 2026 (3:30 PM).
• Choose the typing option (English or Bengali) and the order of posting preference (Secretariat Departments, Directorates, or Regional/District offices of one particular District or Kolkata). Filling in the posting option is mandatory.
• Mention one valid Photo ID (Madhyamik certificate bearing photograph, Passport, PAN Card, EPIC/Voter ID, Driving Licence or other State/Central Government ID) with its number and issuing authority.
• Upload category certificate in PDF format (not more than 100 KB) for EWS/S.C./S.T./O.B.C. (Non-Creamy Layer)/PwBD/Meritorious Sportsperson/Ex-Serviceman claimants, or the application will not be accepted.
• Pay the fee online (if applicable) by 26 October 2026, 3:30 PM, and take a printout of the application form.
• If a correction is needed, use the Edit Window from 28 October 2026 to 1 November 2026.

Key Candidate Instructions

• An application, once submitted, is final. No change in category claim is entertained after final submission.
• Admission to the examination is provisional, subject to eligibility. Candidature can be cancelled at any stage, even after appointment letter issuance.
• PwBD candidates with writing limitation may use a scribe; compensatory time of 20 minutes per hour is allowed with valid Appendix-I certificate.
• Mobile phones, smart watches, Bluetooth devices, and communication devices are not allowed in examination premises. Frisking is done at entry points.
• Canvassing for support will disqualify a candidate.
• False information about age, qualification, or category can lead to penal action and cancellation.
• Candidates taking Hindi, Urdu, Nepali, or Santali in place of Bengali in Group B of Part-II must pass a departmental examination in Bengali during probation before confirmation.
