Eligibility Criteria & Educational Qualification

  • Senior Standing Counsel: Enrolled as an advocate in the High Court and member of its Bar Council. Minimum 5 years of handling direct tax matters before High Courts or ITAT. OR Junior Standing Counsel of the Department for 3 years. OR Retired/resigned Income-tax officer of Addl. Commissioner/Director or equivalent. OR Former ITAT member.
  • Junior Standing Counsel: Enrolled as an advocate in the High Court and member of its Bar Council. Minimum 3 years of handling preferably direct tax matters before High Courts or ITAT. OR Retired/resigned Income-tax officer of Additional/Joint CIT or below.

Selection Process & Screening Clause

  • Evaluation of Applications: Screening Committee evaluates submitted applications.
  • Interview: Interview conducted by the Committee to assess expertise in direct tax matters and interpretation.
  • Marking: Marks awarded under Proforma B-1 or B-2 (Maximum 100 marks).
  • Benchmark: Candidates must meet a minimum benchmark fixed by the Committee.
  • Buffer Panel: A panel buffer of at least 25% may be considered. No TA/DA will be paid for interviews.

Required Documents & Instructions for Candidates

  • Original Matriculation (10th) Certificate / Birth Certificate as Proof of Date of Birth.
  • All Degree and Consolidated Mark Sheets.
  • Proof of Date of Enrolment as an Advocate and Registration Number.
  • Proforma A1 (detailing direct tax cases handled) & Copy of latest I.T. Return.
  • Valid Category / Caste Certificate (if applicable).
  • Two recent passport-size photographs & Valid Photo ID Proof (Aadhaar / Voter ID / PAN).
  • Submission: Send in a sealed cover to the address mentioned in Quick Facts by 30 November 2026.
