Unit-wise Vacancy Details

• Figures are as printed in the official notification. Two posts in MMS Chennai are reserved (horizontally) for ex-servicemen.

Eligibility

• Education: 10th standard pass from a recognised board or institute.
• Licence: valid driving licence for light and heavy motor vehicles (LMV and HMV).
• Knowledge of motor mechanism: you should be able to fix minor defects in the vehicle.
• Experience: at least 3 years driving light and heavy motor vehicles.
• Desirable: 3 years' service as a Home Guard or Civil Volunteer.

Age Limit

• 18 to 27 years for UR and EWS candidates, as on 30.11.2026 (the closing date).
• Relaxation: SC/ST 5 years, OBC 3 years. Government servants can apply up to 40 years, as per instructions. Ex-servicemen get relaxation as per rules.

Salary

• Pay Level 2 of the 7th CPC Pay Matrix: ₹19,900–63,200 a month, plus admissible allowances.
• Probation: 2 years.

Exam Pattern

• Stage I – Theory (80 marks, 90 minutes, MCQ): general knowledge (20 questions), reasoning (15), arithmetic (15), and motor mechanism, traffic rules, signals and road sense (30). The paper is in English, Hindi and the local language where applicable.
• Stage II – Practical (20 marks, 40 minutes): Paper I, identifying defects and minor repairs (10 marks); Paper II, heavy motor vehicle driving (10 marks).
• Qualifying marks in each paper: SC/ST 33%, OBC/EWS 37%, others 40%.
• The final merit list is based on total marks in both stages.

• Fill in the form by hand. Attach self-attested copies of your 10th certificate, age proof, community/EWS certificate, driving licence and experience certificate, plus a recent photo.
• Pay ₹100 (if applicable) by e-payment at a computerised post office and attach the receipt.
• Send the application by Speed Post only to: The Senior Manager (Group-A), Mail Motor Service, No. 37, Greams Road, Chennai – 600 006. Write the post name on the envelope. It must reach by 30.11.2026, 5:00 PM.
