PhD Position (BITS Pilani-IIT Madras Collaborative Ph.D. Programme)128 Years₹ 48,100 (₹ 37,000 + 30% HRA) + ₹ 20,000 annual contingency

Eligibility Criteria & Educational Qualification

  • Essential: M.Sc. in Physics or an equivalent degree in Physics / Engineering Physics / M.Tech. / M.E. / B.E. / B.Tech. in Electrical Engineering or allied disciplines from a recognized university/institute, with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks or equivalent CGPA.
  • Desired Skills: Knowledge of quantum mechanics, quantum optics or quantum information theory; basic programming skills (preferably Python); interest in theoretical and numerical research.
  • Age Limit: 28 Years (no cut-off date or category relaxation specified in the notice).

Selection Process & Screening Clause

  • Submission of CV by email to the supervisor by 21 November 2026.
  • Shortlisting of eligible candidates based on academic merit and relevance of background.
  • Online interview of shortlisted candidates — schedule will be emailed to shortlisted candidates.
  • Selected candidates will be registered for the Ph.D. programme subject to fulfilment of BITS Ph.D. qualification requirements as per academic guidelines.
  • Note: No TA/DA will be paid for attending the interview. The student will be registered at BITS Pilani; the Ph.D. degree will be awarded by BITS Pilani upon successful completion of all programme requirements.

Required Documents & Instructions for Candidates

  • Updated Curriculum Vitae (CV) — the only document to be sent at the application stage
  • Original Matriculation (10th) Certificate / Birth Certificate as Proof of Date of Birth (for verification stage)
  • All Degree and Consolidated Mark Sheets
  • Experience Certificates on Official Letterhead (if applicable)
  • Valid Category / Caste Certificate in prescribed format (if applicable)
  • Two recent passport-size photographs & Valid Photo ID Proof (Aadhaar / Voter ID / PAN)
  • Duration of stay at IIT Madras will be mutually decided by the supervisor and co-supervisor; expected minimum 6 months, extendable up to 24 months based on research work.
