Post-Wise Vacancy & Pay Scale

• Vacancies are tentative. The Institute reserves the right to change the number of posts and to fill all, some, or none of them. PwBD reservations are included within these numbers. Selected faculty receive pay and allowances as applicable to Central Government employees stationed at IIIT Pune. With Board of Governors approval, a deserving candidate may be offered a higher starting pay.

Eligibility Criteria & Educational Qualification

• Mandatory for all candidates: A Ph.D. in the relevant or equivalent discipline and first class in all preceding degree(s). Where the university does not define first class, minimum 60% marks or 6.5 CGPA is treated as first class.
• Nationality: Indian nationals, including Persons of Indian Origin and Overseas Citizens of India (OCI).
• Age: No upper age limit. Age is determined as on the closing date for online applications (28 November 2026). Age relaxation follows applicable Government of India norms. Fresh appointment beyond the age of 60 is discouraged, except for faculty with exceptionally brilliant research careers and ongoing externally funded projects.

Assistant Professor, Grade-I (Pay Level 12) – Qualification & Experience

• Ph.D. in the relevant discipline with first class in preceding degrees.
• Experience: Minimum 3 years after Ph.D. or 6 years of total teaching and research experience in a reputed academic institute, R&D lab, or relevant industry.
• Credit Points: Minimum 20 cumulative essential credit points as per Annexure-III of the notification.
• Experience calculation: Only continuous relevant experience on a regular scale for more than 6 months is counted. Candidates who obtained their Ph.D. from IIIT Pune are considered only if they have 3 years of outside experience after the Ph.D.

Assistant Professor, Grade-II (Pay Level 10, On Contract) – Qualification & Experience

• Ph.D. in the relevant discipline with first class in preceding degrees.
• Experience: Nil — no prior experience required.
• Credit Points: Nil — no credit points required.
• Preferred (not mandatory): Post-doctoral experience in reputed institutions in India or abroad. Industry professionals with substantial professional/R&D experience, quality publications in leading journals, or patents in the relevant field may also apply.

Selection Process & Screening Clause

• The selection process comprises three sequential stages: shortlisting, document verification with a written examination, and a presentation-cum-interview.

Stage 2 – Document Verification & Written Examination

• Shortlisted candidates report to the IIIT Pune campus (Talegaon, Pune) with all original documents, two sets of self-attested photocopies, and a signed PDF copy of the online application form.
• Only candidates whose documents are successfully verified may appear for the written test.
• Written Examination: Offline at IIIT Pune. Multiple-choice questions. Negative marking of 1/4 mark may apply for wrong answers.
• This stage is qualifying only — cut-off is 35% for SC/ST/PwD and 40% for all other categories.

• The fee is non-refundable and is charged separately per department per post. Payment is made online through the portal link.

• SC / ST certificate (issued by officer not below Tahsildar or First-Class Magistrate), where applicable

• NOC from present employer (Govt. / PSU / University candidates)
• Experience certificate(s) on official letterhead
• Valid photo ID proof (Aadhaar / Passport / Driving Licence / Voter ID)
• Any other document supporting claims
• Envelope addressing format: "Application for the post of ____, Level ____ in the Department of ____, E-Samarth Form No. ____" — send by speed/registered post or deliver in person to: The Registrar, Indian Institute of Information Technology Pune, PO – Talegaon, Pune, Maharashtra – 410507. It must reach by 9 December 2026, 05:30 PM.
• Key instructions:
• Eligibility is determined solely from the hard copy received before the deadline. No documents are accepted after that date. The Institute is not responsible for postal delay or loss.
• A submitted online application cannot be modified.
• Each post or department requires a separate application and separate fee. A single form covering more than one post is rejected.
• Candidates in Government / Semi-Government / PSU / university / educational institution service must apply through proper channel or bring NOC and vigilance clearance to the written test / interview.
• Two references who know the candidate's work and character must be provided.

2. What is the application fee for IIIT Pune Assistant Professor posts?

• General, OBC, and EWS candidates pay Rs. 2,360/- (Rs. 2,000 + 18% GST). SC, ST, Female, and PwBD candidates pay Rs. 1,180/- (Rs. 1,000 + 18% GST). IIIT Pune regular employees are exempted from the fee. The fee is charged separately for each department and post applied to.

3. How many vacancies are available and which posts are offered?

• There are 17 tentative vacancies across two posts: Assistant Professor Grade-I (6 posts, Pay Level 12, regular) and Assistant Professor Grade-II (11 posts, Pay Level 10, contractual). The posts are open in Computer Science & Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, and Applied Science & Humanities.

4. What is the salary for IIIT Pune Assistant Professor Grade-I and Grade-II?

• Grade-I (Level-12) starts at Pay Level 12: Rs. 78,800 – Rs. 2,05,700 per month plus Dearness Allowance, House Rent Allowance, and other allowances as applicable to Central Government employees. Grade-II (Level-10) is at Pay Level 10: Rs. 56,100 – Rs. 1,77,500 per month plus applicable allowances. Board of Governors approval may grant a higher starting pay to deserving candidates.

6. What is the selection process for IIIT Pune Assistant Professor Recruitment 2026?

• The process has three stages: (1) Shortlisting based on institution pedigree, research quality, and indexed publications — meeting minimum qualifications alone does not guarantee a call; (2) Document verification and qualifying written test — offline MCQ exam at IIIT Pune with negative marking of 1/4, cut-off 35% (SC/ST/PwD) or 40% (others); (3) Presentation-cum-interview — final selection is based entirely on this stage. No TA/DA is paid for attending any stage.
