  • Keralam State Mental Health Authority has announced 1 vacancy for the post of Member – Medical Practitioner under Section 74(1)(c) of the Mental Healthcare Act, 2017, for the Mental Health Review Board, Kannur.

Eligibility Criteria & Educational Qualification

  • Member – Medical Practitioner: The candidate must be a medical practitioner as defined under Section 2(1)(n) of the Mental Healthcare Act, 2017. This broadly means a person who holds a recognised medical qualification and is registered with a State Medical Council or the National Medical Commission.
  • Disqualification Conditions: A person shall be disqualified for appointment if convicted and sentenced to imprisonment for an offence involving moral turpitude, adjudged as an insolvent, removed or dismissed from Government service or a body corporate owned/controlled by Government, or has financial or other interest prejudicial to the functions of a member.
  • Additional Disqualifications: Members holding any full-time or part-time assignment preventing adequate time and attention to this office, or holding any office in a political party during the tenure, shall stand disqualified.

Selection Process & Screening Clause

  • The selection process involves screening of applications submitted by eligible candidates.
  • Following screening, appointment of the Member is made by the Chairperson of the State Authority (Keralam State Mental Health Authority).
  • There is no written examination or interview for this appointment.
  • The appointed Member shall hold office for a term of five years or up to the age of seventy years, whichever is earlier, and is eligible for reappointment for another term of five years or up to seventy years of age.
  • No TA/DA will be paid to candidates for attending the selection process.

5. What is the salary for the KSMHA Member Medical Practitioner post?

  • Serving Government Medical Practitioners receive an honorarium of Rs. 2,000/- per month. Retired Government Medical Practitioners receive an honorarium limited to Rs. 50,000/- (Last Pay minus Pension before commutation; not eligible for DA and HRA). Other categories receive Rs. 1,000/- per sitting plus Travelling Allowance.
